Seamless Fall 2024 Transition: Your Ultimate Wardrobe Guide

We’re officially in that part of the season when it’s chilly in the morning, warm in the afternoon, and chilly again in the evening. It will eventually get cold and stay that way, but we’re not quite there yet. So, how do we embrace fall? Let’s be honest—summer unofficially ends after Labor Day. The best way to transition is gradually. Here are a few tips to help you ease into the season.

Layers Are a Must

Layers are key for navigating a pre-fall day. Think a light cardigan or blazer, and maybe a leather jacket as it gets chillier. This way, you’ll stay warm during your commute and cool enough at lunchtime. Wear something sleeveless or short-sleeved underneath the blazer.

Keep the Denim Shorts in Rotation

If you have limited closet space, you probably rotate your wardrobe like I do. When making that seasonal shift, don’t put your denim shorts away just yet. They’re perfect for bridging the gap on warmer days, allowing you to incorporate fall pieces without overheating. And the same logic applies to a mini denim skirt.

Embrace Fall with the Right Colors

Colors are a fantastic way to embrace the season. Just as you brighten up your wardrobe in the spring and summer, opt for darker, cooler tones in the fall. And, with all due respect, I’m not suggesting you go all black. While there’s definitely a time and place for an all-black ensemble, there are plenty of beautiful fall colors to enjoy.

Here’s a hint: burgundy (or wine/oxblood) is huge this season. Stay tuned for more on that in a later post!

Adjust Your Textures and Fabrics

On milder days, shift to more seasonally appropriate textures and fabrics. For example, swap out a tank for a sleeveless sweater and choose sturdier, wool-like materials instead of linen. Some fabrics are quintessentially fall or summer, and it’s usually pretty easy to spot which is which.

Switch to Closed-Toe Shoes

The easiest way to transition to fall is to swap out your sandals for closed-toe shoes. You don’t have to ditch sandals cold turkey, but closed-toe options instantly give your look a more fall-friendly vibe. Boots are a classic choice, but on warmer days, you can opt for loafers, ballet flats, or sneakers instead.
